QED! THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD EXPOSES CLIMATE ACTIVISM

Quod erat demonstrandum

When Science Rescues Truth and Calls for Sobriety in the Climate Debate

By Antonio Fernando Pinheiro Pedro

For decades, the climate change debate has been hijacked by noisy activism, turning a complex and multifactorial issue into an unquestionable dogma. The dominant narrative, fueled by alarmist projections and highly sensitive models, imposed an apocalyptic vision that barely aligned with observed reality.

But no discourse can withstand the harsh reality of facts. The recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) — “A Critical Review of Impacts of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on the U.S. Climate”, published in July 2025, confirms what many scientists and independent thinkers, including this author, have been warning for years: climate science is far from settled, and the models used to justify draconian policies lack precision and epistemological humility.

What the DOE Report Says

True science is built on doubt, revision, and hypothesis testing. It is not religion, nor is it rooted in ideology. The DOE report does not deny the existence of climate change — after all, the climate has been changing for billions of years and interacts with geomorphobiological transformations, especially those caused by human activity.

The report calls for sobriety, precision, and honest debate — based on science and facts, without dogma, fear, or activism. Key findings include:

  • Climate sensitivity to CO₂ may be lower than previously estimated.

  • Climate models tend to exaggerate future warming projections.

  • Aggressive mitigation policies may be economically harmful.

  • U.S. climate policies have an almost imperceptible impact on global climate.

This last point — that U.S. mitigation policies have negligible global impact while incurring significant economic costs — reinforces the need to reassess strategies, prioritizing technological innovation and smart adaptation over ideological restrictions.

Direct Impacts of CO₂: Global Greening

The report highlights increased vegetation due to CO₂ fertilization — a phenomenon long noted by Brazilian scientists like the late Professor Aziz Ab’Saber. It also notes improved water-use efficiency in agriculture and rising ocean alkalinity, which affects coral reefs.

Concrete data shows lower climate sensitivity than IPCC models suggest. The transient response to CO₂ is more moderate than predicted.

Model vs. Observation Conflicts

The report identifies discrepancies between models and real-world data in:

  1. Surface and troposphere warming

  2. Vertical temperature profiles

  3. Snow cover and planetary albedo

  4. Extreme climate events

Historically, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, and floods show no significant increase. Extreme temperatures in the U.S. are becoming less frequent, and wildfires are more influenced by land management practices than climate alone.

Sea level has risen about 20 cm since 1900 — with no significant acceleration beyond historical averages.

Attribution Methods and Policy Implications

Climate change attribution methods have many limitations. Natural climate variability remains a relevant and poorly understood factor. The social cost of carbon is highly sensitive to assumptions and thus unreliable.

The report recommends caution in climate policies based on sensitive models and suggests a path toward encouraging energy innovation rather than imposing restrictions.

Reason vs. Activist Passion

Climate activism, relying on extreme scenarios and catastrophic forecasts, ignored the divergence between models and real data — as shown in temperature measurements, snow cover, and extreme events.

Globalist governments and mainstream media share responsibility for this harmful distortion of science. Instead of promoting plural, evidence-based debate, many political and media sectors silenced dissenting voices, labeling any questioning as “denialism.”

This author has personally faced militant backlash — which suppresses reason in favor of passion. Such emotional posturing impoverishes debate and undermines science’s credibility.

Irresponsible climate policies incur high costs and yield minimal impact.

Conclusion: Science Is Not Activism

True science is built on doubt, revision, and hypothesis testing. The DOE report does not deny human influence on climate change. Instead, it presents concrete facts and invites sober, precise, and honest debate.

It is reassuring to see that my reflections and “gut feelings,” expressed in articles over the years, have found resonance with scientific authorities shaping energy policy in the world’s leading nation.

Many scholars and scientists are now free from activist censorship — which has cost the global environmental economy dearly.

As we aimed to demonstrate: it is possible — and necessary — to discuss climate with science, without dogma, fear, or activism.
